To Love-Ru is a manga series written by Saki Hasemi and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki, who also created Black Cat. Between April 24, 2006, and August 31, 2009, the manga was serialized in Shueisha's manga magazine Weekly Shnen Jump, and 18 tankbon volumes were published in Japan. In February 2008, a drama CD featuring an original tale was released. Between April and September 2008, a 26-episode anime series adaption by Xebec premiered in Japan. Between April 2009 and April 2010, Xebec created six original video animation episodes. Between October and December 2010, Xebec aired a 12-episode second season of Motto To-Love Ru. In August 2008, a Nintendo DS game was launched, and in October 2008, a PlayStation Portable game was released. On October 4, 2010, Shueisha's Jump Square magazine began serializing a continuation of the manga titled To Love-Ru Darkness. In October 2012, Xebec released an anime TV series version of To-Love Ru Darkness. The title is derived from the English word gairaigo, which means "trouble," and "rabu," which is a borrowing word from the English language that means "love." The title is a play on the phrase "love problem," which refers to the series' harem component.
